Banky W Biography and Early Life

Olubankole Wellington, also known as Banky was born on 27th March 1981 and has dual citizenship of Nigerian Origin and was born in the United States.

He began singing in the choir at the age of five after his family relocated back to Lagos, Nigeria. It was here that he completed his primary and secondary school education.

Immediately after he was through with his secondary school, Banky got a scholarship to study at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York. He graduated with a degree in Industry engineering.

While in school, he worked at GlobalSpec in the United State of America. He also established his record label E.M.E in 2002 while in school.

Banky afterward began his musical path by releasing his hit song “Undeniable” in 2003. Upon its release, it sold thousands of copies in a short time.

Owing to the massive sale of his single, Fox 23 News New York got in touch with him and contracted the distribution deal of Trans World, a North American largest music distributor.

The top selling single won Banky the 2003 Urban Independent Musuc Awards’  R&B/ soul artiste of the year.

Banky released his debut album “Back in the building” in 2005. This album contained his award winning single, “My Regret” that won him US Songwriting award in 2006, the Nigerian Entertainment award for the R&B/Soul artiste of the year and in 2007, the International single of the Year.

Banky relocated back to Nigeria In 2008, he return to Nigeria and established his record label in Lagos State, Nigeria.

In 2013, Banky released another album “R&BW”, featuring artists like Iyanya and Waje. The album had hit singles like “Lowkey” and “Yes/No”.

Banky dissolved the record label to creative marketing,  advertising,  PR, and brand events. The pioneer participants of the brand was Adesua Etomi ( his wife), Ebuka ,Obi-Uchendu, Tolu ‘Toolz’ Oniru, and DJ Xclusive.

Banky was also the brand ambassador for Etisalat Nigeria and composed the first theme song for the brand titled ‘0809ja for life’.

Banky began his Political career by declaring his interest in 2018. He however,  lost in the 2019 election but currently has won the representative for his Constituency.

Banky’s mult-talented nature is also seen in his acting career. Due to his passion for acting,  he studied film making and screenwriting courses at the New York Film Academy.

He was the lead role in the 2016 movie ‘The Wedding Party 1 and 2’ and some other movies like Up North in 2018,  Sugar Rush in 2019, etc.

He’s won some other Awards like R&B Singer of the Year at City People Entertainment Awards in 2010, Best Music Video(Male) at Sound City Music Video Awards in 2010,
Best R&B Singer at Sound City Music Video Awards in 2010, etc.

The mult-talented artist still thrives on in his career path. He’s married to Adesua Etomi and has a son, Ziah Etomi.
