Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, Nigeria, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, does not want to resign because he wants to continue overseeing the party’s finances.
Wike stated this over the weekend during a press conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State’s capital.
Governor Nyesom Wike gives real reasons Ayu Refuses to Resign as PDP Chairman.
The Governor and his associates have called for Ayu’s resignation, claiming that it is against the PDP’s constitution for the national chairman and presidential candidate to be from the same zone.
Ayu is from Benue (North Central), while Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate, is from Adamawa (North East).
Wike had also accused the PDP national chairman of being “very corrupt” and not being accountable for party funds. “Why doesn’t he want to resign?” He is hoping that Nigerians will donate money to the party so that he can oversee it.
“He has already spent N11 billion from the party’s primaries.” He says it’s in the account, so account for it. Display the report to the general public. Print out PDP’s balance sheet and let the world see how the N11 billion was spent.
“And this is the party we have all worked hard to unseat the ruling party, which we have said has done poorly.” The national chairman will then speak up about contestants being stopped.
“Ayu should not say that. He tried it in the state of Rivers. He came to manipulate and attempt to place some gubernatorial candidates, but he saw the outcome. “We dealt with him,” said Wike.
