Mercy Chinwo Biography and Early Life

Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on September 5, 1990 in Port Harcourt, River State, Nigeria. She is her parents’ fourth child and the only girl.

Mercy attended Ultimate Victory Academy before moving back to Port Harcourt to continue her primary and secondary education.

While she was 8, Mercy started her singing path. She was in the children’s choir in her home church.

Although there’s no much information about her family background, information has it that her dad died at an early age.

Mercy progressed to the adult choir of her church, and this was a stepping stone to her musical career. She began to participate in musical competitions.

Mercy then got enlisted as one of the season two contestants on the popular talent show in Nigeria, “Nigerian Idol”, and emerged as the winner of the contest. This alone shot her to the limelight.

Mercy delved into acting and, of course, is also a talented actress. Her debut movie role was as Lucia in Yvonne Nelson’s “House of Gold”.

“House of Gold” is a Ghanaian-Nigerian comedy film that also starred celebrities like Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel, Omawumi, Ice Prince, Eddie Watson, Francis Odega, e.t.c.

Mercy then delved into gospel music and is currently still in line. Her debut single “Testimony” was released in 2015, after which she released “Igwe” in 2016.

Mercy signed with Eezee Conceptz Gospel Music Label in 2017. Gospel artists like Frank Edwards, Preye Odede, and Hilda Dokubo are also signed to the label.

It was there that she released the majority of her songs and albums. Her album “The Cross My Gaze” was released in 2018.

In 2020, Mercy released another 13-track album, “Satisfied”. Among her 2018 released songs is her hit song “Excess Love”. The song was listened to far and wide.

In 2018, she released three other songs: “Omekanaya”, “No More Pain”, and “Chinedu”. Another hit trio of hers released in 2019 are , “Power Belongs to Jesus,” “Akamdinelu,” and “Oh Jesus.”

In 2020, Mercy released four more songs, “Obinasom”, “Kosi”, “Tasted of Your Power”, and “Na you dey reign”. Mercy’s songs are heard  in virtually every Nigerian church and beyond.

Mercy is a cheerful and happy lady and has, with grace and hard work, achieved a great feat in her choice of career.

She recently got married to Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, who is a resident pastor of The Waterbrook Church (TWB) in Lekki, Lagos State, and established in 2009.

On August 12th and 13th, 2022, their photos were all over the internet with the hashtag # mercyisblessed.

Mercy propagates the gospel of Christ in her music and her impact is felt all over the world.
