On Monday, the National Youth Service (NYSC) announced the start of the 2023 Batch A Stream II orientation course. The course is set to begin on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

The 21-day orientation course prepares eligible participants for their one-year mandatory service. The organization revealed that orientation courses for Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will start on May 3, 2023. Some participants assigned to the FCT will undergo their orientation courses in Nasarawa and Niger Camps, while others posted to Lagos will attend courses in Ogun and Osun Camps.

The NYSC encourages all Prospective Corps Members to visit the NYSC portal for more information about their assignments.

The NYSC advised married female Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) deployed to states where their spouses are not based to report to the nearest NYSC Orientation Camp. During registration at the Orientation Camps, they should present copies of their marriage and other relevant documents as evidence.

NYSC is a program started by the Nigerian government on May 22, 1973, aiming to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and promoting the country’s development.

The scheme was established under Decree No. 24, stating its purpose was to provide encouragement and develop common ties among Nigeria’s youth and promote national unity.

Eligibility for the Scheme requires a graduate to be under or not over the age of 30 years upon graduation. If a graduate completes their degree before turning 30 but skips the service year, they will still be eligible, as their graduation certificate is dated before they reached 30 years of age.

Those over 30 years of age receive a Certificate of Exemption, equivalent to the NYSC Discharge Certificate.

Upon successful completion of the service year, Corps members receive a certificate acknowledging their satisfactory participation in the scheme.
