Richard Mofe-Damijo Biography and Early Life

Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo also known as RMD, was born on 6 July 1961 in Aladja community in Warri , Delta State.

Growing up in Aladja community of the Udu Kingdom, in Warri, Delta State Nigeria, Richard attended Midwest College, Warri.

He then proceeded to Anglican Grammar School, there he became a strong member of the Drama club in his school.

He attended the Midwest College, Warri, and proceeded to Anglican Grammar School where he was a strong member of the Drama Club.

In order to further his education, he enrolled in the University of Benin, where he studied Theatre Arts.

Richard Mofe-Damijo bagged his first degree in Theatre Arts from University of Benin and returned to the university in 1997 to study Law.

He graduated in 2004 with his law degree and then some years later, started off his university education.

After his graduation, RMD started off as a reporter for the Metro Magazine and also worked with Concord Newspapers. He then delved into acting.

RMD featured in a TV soap opera “Ripples” and then acted Out of Bounds. It was his movie role in Out of Bounds. He got producer credits after his role in the latter movie.

His famosity rose after acting as evil Segun Kadiri in the drama “Checkmate”. Richard has featured in over 200 movies since he started acting.

  • Best actor in a leading role at the debut edition of the African Movie Academy Awards in 2005.
  • RMD received a Black Star honour at the Rhymes on Da Runway, Gold Coast,  Ghana.
  • 2012 Best of Nollywood Awards for Special recognition.
  • Nominated as Best Supporting Actor for the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • 2016 Africa Movie Academy Award for All-time Best lead actor in the movie “Crossroad”.
  • Lifetime Award at the 12th Edition of the African Movie Academy Awards.

With his multi-talented nature, RMD and Nigerian journalist Mimi Fawaz co-hosted the 2016 GLO-CAF Awards on January 5, 2017.

Richard has been a strong pillar in the Nollywood industry and afterward delved into politics. RMD was appointed by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as the Special Adviser of Culture and Tourism in 2008.

Richard was later appointed commissioner for Culture and Tourism of Delta State, Nigeria in 2009 and ended his tenure in 2015.

His involvement in politics increased his status quo and given him an edge over his colleagues. Just like every human, Richard Mofe-Damijo was married to late Mrs. May Ellen Mofe-Damijo “MEE”, a journalist, publisher, and talk show host who sadly died in 1996.

He then remarried in a one-time TV personality (now businesswoman)Jumobi Adegbesan. RMD is a father to five children, three with her ex-wife while two with her current wife.

The award-winning Nigerian actor, lawyer, writer, producer, and former journalist is an inspiration to up and comming actors.
