On July 8, 1991, “Virgil Van Dijk” was born in Breda, Netherlands. His parents are Ron Van Dyke (a Dutchman) and Hellen Fo Sieeuw (a Surinamese).

Van has two siblings. He was exposed to football at a very young age. Just like most kids did growing up, he played in the streets with his mates.

Van’s mom saw to his upbringing from his twelfth year, as his dad left home then. This didn’t affect his football zeal, but he kept pursuing his footballing career. His life revolves around his football passion. This is why there’s no information about his education.
