Wike endorses his Lagos colleague, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for a second term and has advised other governorship candidates in Lagos not to squander their time.
With the ongoing PDP crisis, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has denounced Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s endorsement by his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike.
Wike endorses Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state despite the party’s disapproval
On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Wike endorsed Sanwo-Olu for a second term at the 22nd convention of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, Wike, a member of the opposition party, stated that he believes in good administration and chose to attend because Sanwo-Olu is doing well.
As a result, he endorsed the reelection of the Lagos State Governor, adding that others, including his party’s governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, commonly known as Jador, should not waste their time.
Wike stated, “If Sanwo-Olu is not doing (well), even if he belongs to my party, I will not come here. If you belong to my party and you are not doing well in governance, you won’t see me,”
“If you don’t belong to my party and you are doing well, you will see me. Good governance is what I stand for. I will not regret to say that I am in support of you (Sanwo-Olu) for the second term. Others should not waste their time”.
However, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, the PDP expressed confidence that its governorship candidate, Sanwo-Olu, would be defeated in the upcoming election.
The party promised to render Sanwo-Olu ineffective and send him to the ex-governor’s club in 2023.
His remarks were: “I only wonder how Governor Wike, who didn’t support Jandor and at the same time, couldn’t stop him from picking the party ticket in Lagos despite his supposed might within the PDP, would apportion to himself the decision of generality of Lagosians in the forthcoming election.
“While we won’t but acknowledge Governor Wike’s developmental strides in Rivers State which has within the used influx of other state chief executives including Sanwo-Olu for commissioning,
it is worrisome that Governor Wike will call Sanwo-Olu a performer without asking how many times he has invited anyone to Lagos for the commission even ordinary borehole in his almost four years in office as Governor,” he ended.
The opposition group continued by saying that Wike’s support for Sanwo-Olu cannot prevent its candidate from winning the upcoming election.
Only God and the majority of Lagos residents, in Amode’s opinion, will decide Jandor’s fate during the 2023 elections.
