Wizkid’s Biography
Wizkid’s full name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun. He was born on July 16, 1990 in Surulere, Lagos Nigeria.
Wizkid grew up in Lagos with twelve (12) sisters, his father is Islam and his mother a Christian. He attended Lagos State University but dropped out, then attended Lead City University and also dropped out. Wizkid always wanted to pursue a music career from a young age but his parents were not in support of the notion.
Wizkid started singing in the choir as a teenager, and since then his passion to pursue his music career never faded. He drew inspiration listening to musicians like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and Bob Marley. Before he became popularly known as Wizkid, he used to go by a very different stage name “lil prinz” till sometime in 2006. Within that same time he formed a band with members of his choir called the glorious 5. They managed to release an album before they god disbanded.
Wizkid began recording his debut studio album Superstar in 2009. He released “Holla at Your Boy” as the album’s lead single on 2 January 2010. The song nominated for Best Pop Single but earned him the Next Rated award at The Headies 2011. In addition to winning the award, he was awarded a 2012 Hyundai Sonata courtesy of the organizers. Its music video was nominated for Most Gifted Newcomer Video at the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards. This was the beginning of Wizkid’s success, today he is recognized as one of the most talented Nigerian Artistes in the world.
