As stated above, the Spice Girls is a Quintet group and the most popular singers in the ‘90s. They dominated the Pop music world and their first song “Wannabe”, released in 1996, was played in over 30 countries.

Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, and Victoria Beckham made an impact that brought the revolution of the female vocal group.

To this time, despite their separation, fans consider them the most successful and rich vocal group of all time.

They still are dominating in their various endeavours (fashion, theatre, TV, publishing, radio, and music)  that make up the British pop girl quartet.

The first song “Wannabe” hit the top of the charts in over 30 countries, while the debut album “Spice” sold more than 23 million copies worldwide in 1996.

 

Spice Girls’ Early Career

The Spice Girl group was formed by Heart Management’s Bob and Chris Herbert due to the need for a female alternative to the popular boy bands that conquered the mainstream music charts at the time.

This way, they went on the quest for new singers by putting up an ad in ‘The Stage’ magazine. With over 400 women showing up for the audition in groups of tens.

The five ladies qualified for the next round of auditions. The band selection was Adams, Brown, Chrisholm, Halliwell, and Stephenson initially named ‘Touch’,  and later named ‘Sugar and Spice’.

Stephenson was however fired and replaced by Emma Bunton. They had issues with the Herberts in 1994 and thereafter fired in March 1995.

It was after signing a record deal with Virgin Records that they adopted the name Spice Girls as its official name.

They had their spicy names. Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B  was the “Scary Spice“; Melanie Chisholm or Melanie C was the “Sporty Spice“; Emma Bunton was known as “Baby Spice“; Geri Halliwell, the “Ginger Spice“, and Victoria Beckham, the “Posh Spice“.

 

Spice Girls’ Earnings and Net worth

They earned incredible as a group. Within the short time of their existence, they released three hit albums that earned a massive sum of money. They attained the top hits in the U. K. and nine of their songs were popularly played.

They went about various parts of the world, promoting their songs and touring. During the rise of their fame in the late ‘90s, they earned $75 million per year.

On their return in 2007, they got paid 20 million dollars, performing in concerts in different parts of the world. They had 17 sold-out shows at London’s O2 arena.

Their debut album “Spice“, sold about 23 million copies globally in 1996. With an estimated 100 million records sold globally, the Quintet is worth about $800 million.

They’ve earned five Brit Awards, three American Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three MTV Europe  Music Awards, and one MTV Video Music Award. They were the youngest recipients of the Brit Award for Outstanding.

 

Halliwell left the group in May 1998, the group was then a four-piece. They then released an album (Forever) without her in 2000. It recorded poor sales. They then went on a break to focus on their careers and they’re doing so well.
