Tips for Decorating Your Home on a Budget
Written by Robin Okwanma

Folks, it’s a great idea to put your living space in good order. Imagine the peace and tranquility that comes with a neat, pretty, organized house. Feed your mind with good sights, so you can have a gentle rest at home. So a quality home decor is advisable from time to time, but it does not necessarily need to be expensive. Work it out according to your budget. You can still decorate your home with little money.

Let’s check out a few ideas about how you can touch up your home space and make it look more attractive. Here are a few tips for decorating your home on low budget and still get it right.

De-congest the Place

There are often objects around the house that are no longer needed. And worse still, they probably look so old or dirty. So why not pack them away, get rid of them? If possible, sell them off or recycle them. That old and worn furniture, those unsightly old drapes. You know what needs to be gotten rid of. Handle them as such to brighten up the place.

Reuse and Recycle

Yeah, you got some timeless pieces around the house that just need a little wipe and shine here and there. Like artworks, or a great-looking wall clock. Glassware, maybe. You can switch their positions around the house and re-arrange the place. Or touch up a piece of meaningful furniture with fresh paint. Paint the walls with an attractive colour or wall paper. Get creative.

The Simpler, the Better

Household items that contribute to an uplifting interior look are often the ones that appear simple. They can easily give the impression of neatness. Find them, clean them up and make good use of them.

Create Your Own Artwork

If you don’t have a gorgeous collection of artworks, you can improvise. Get attractive cutouts from unused wallpaper, magazines or cloth material and frame them. Create a mosaic of cowry shells, stones, wood pieces or broken glass and glue them to a wooden background. There are many simple yet creative designs you can make from waste or leftover objects in the house.

Try Neutral colors

Some costly timepieces don’t have loud colors. And yet they look noble. You can change their positions around the house to obtain a different look. What’s more, you only need to buy such items once, in case you are considering the cost. Reuse them thereafter to obtain stunning effects that feel different each time you rearrange the place.

Don’t Buy More Than You Need

Guard yourself against buying what you don’t need, or more of what you already have. Because that would be wasteful. If all your sofa needs is to re-wrap it with neater covering or new upholstery, concentrate on that. Rather than buying more furniture. And if you have that basic item at home – no matter how attractive something similar to it looks while visiting any shop, resist buying it.

Visit Discount Shops

Yes, there are usually shops around town with all sorts of cheap odds and ends that may appear peculiar. But out of that trash, you will find something valuable if you are observant.

Sample Different Shops Around Town Before Buying

You can try some window shopping, and just visit different shops around town to compare prices before settling for a reasonable price. It can be as interesting as it is rewarding.

Ever Tried a Photo Gallery?

If you are a lover of art, you need to try this. Having your art collections hung here and there across the room may not give you that much of a striking feeling of awe. Try arranging them close to one another in an appealing way. Choose a conspicuous spot on the wall that would attract attention. Make that spot your photo gallery and observe the effect on the entire decor of your living room.

Pay Attention to the Layout

Learn to arrange items around your house in a harmonious way. Make good use of the available space. If your imagination is active enough, the way you put items together can create an illusion of more space or a fresher look.

Make use of Indoors Plants

If you can afford to buy ornamental plants in full bloom, it’s good. But if not, get them as seeds or smaller plants, and nurture them indoors until they grow and blossom. And position them at strategic corners and points of the house that enhance your mood just glancing at it.

Don’t Ignore Your Beautiful Chinaware – Display Them

Your beautifully-painted Chinaware plates and cups are exceptional pieces of art. They can easily grace the top of cabinets and shelves round your home, producing an exotic out-of-the-world look. Please try it.

Try out Hanging Pieces

Wall hangers and hooks are quite useful for arranging a lot of items in the absence of a wardrobe. And they cost cheaper. Your bags, accessories and household items could be positioned on hooks to appear stylish and blend into the decor.

Pair Expensive Pieces with Cheaper Ones

I can bet you there are fancy household items that are actually cheap. They may even be objects not in fashion. You can mix them with the costlier, enchanting pieces. That lovely but simple mirror, that rack, colourful containers, try them out.
