Ycee Biography and Early Life

Oludemilade Martin Alejo, also known as Ycee, was born on the 29th of January 1993, in Festac Town, Lagos, Western Nigeria. Ycee was born to an Igbo mother and a Yoruba father.

Ycee attended Dr. Soyemi Memorial Nursery and Primary School and proceeded to the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Ojo for his secondary education. It was in both the former and latter schools that he obtained his first school leaving and West African School Certificate, respectively.

He then obtained a degree in Marine Biology from the University of Lagos. Ycee spent most of his years in his parents’ house in Festac Town. At his teenage age, Ycee listened to different music genres played on the radio or TV. Later on, he developed an interest in rap music.

Ycee wrote and performed dozens of rap songs in his bedroom for his family and close friends. Ycee became confident and frestyled during break time with his fellow secondary school students.
His friends and schoolmates advised him to pursue his rapping dreams. Well, did he? Let us investigate.

Ycee Career and Net Worth

Ycee began his musical career in 2012 while still in secondary school. Following the advice of his friends and family members, he visited a recording studio close to home and recorded a couple of mixtapes that garnered a lot of attention and listening.

Ycee then got invitations to perform at shows and small concerts in Lagos, but took a break due to his admission into the University of Lagos. Ycee then returned to music and released his single “Condo” featuring Patoranking, which shot him to the limelight. The song won him two nominations at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Ycee signed a record deal with Tinny Entertainment. He then released his hit single “Jagaban” on July 20th, 2015. Olamide, a Nigerian rapper and YBNL boss, asked for a collaboration in the remix of the Jagaban song, which he did. This also increased Ycee’s fame in the country.

Ycee released his debut studio album “The First Wave” in 2017. The album had hit singles like Jagaban, Link Up, Juice, Say Bye Bye, Omo Alhaji, Panda Cover, and Smile on Me.

Ycee held his Juice concert on January 12th, 2018, at the O2 Academy, featuring performances from his label mates Bella Alubo, Sona, Eugy, Ms. Banks, and Flosha.

He left Tinny Entertainment on January 15, 2019, launching his own ANBT record label, which means “Ain’t Nobody Badder Than.”

Ycee released another studio album, Ycee vs Zaheer, a mixture of hip-hop, trap, Afrobeats, Afro-house, Hyphy, R&B, and more on November 8th, 2019. It followed his 8-track debut EP with Bella Alubo, titled “Late Night Vibrations” (2018).
