John Kofi Setor Dumelo was born to John and Antoinette Dumelo on February 3, 1984. His place of birth was in Hohoe, Volta Region of Ghana.
John is the last child of his parents and their only son too. He had his elementary education at the King International School and attended Achimota School for his secondary education.
John had his tertiary education at the popular Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. While in school, John did a lot of stage performances and dramas. He bagged a degree in Civil Engineering from the university.

The GAMA film company had visited Christ the King School and was in search of a child to play a movie role. John was only seven then.
As is mandatory for upcoming actors and actresses, you should audition before playing a movie role. John auditioned for the role of Saka in the movie Baby Thieves. Thankfully, he got the role.
This was the starting point for John’s acting career as a child at age 7. He played his debut movie role as a child called “Saka” in the film “Baby Thief”. John played in this movie when he was still in Christ the King School and realized 20 thousand old Ghana Cedis (currently 2 Ghana Cedis) .
After his tertiary institution (2005), John joined the Ghallywood Industry. John became popular after acting the TV series “Sun City”. He also acted another series “About to Wed”.
The 2008 blockbuster Ghanaian movie, ‘The King is Mine’, had John portrayed as a king. Jackie Appiah and Nadia Buari are also featured in the movie. His fame increased after this movie was released.
John proceeded to join Nollywood in 2007 and has acted alongside top Nollywood actors like Desmond Elliot, Genenvieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, etc.

John went international as he was awarded the Africa’s Most Outstanding Actor at the 2011 Afro Australian Movies and Music Awards that were held in December 2011.
John is currently among Ghana’s most sought-after actors. In 2013, John won the Pan African Film and Festival of Ouagadougou’s Best Actor West Africa Award, and so many more.
Dumelo has become one of the most sought-after actors in Ghana. He has signed an ambassadorial deal with Ghandour Cosmetics alongside Nollywood icon, Omotola Jalade.
John joined the political sector and campaigned as a celebrity influencer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016. He became the NDC Director of Operations for the Pro-NDC youth group under the former Ghanaian president, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and some other political feats.
John is married to Mawunya Nkornu and has a son with her. He is also a philanthropist and one of his good deeds was on New Year’s Eve 2009, when he gave out 1,000 cedi worth of items to the children’s unit of Battor Catholic Hospital.
