Timaya’s Biograpy
Timaya Inetimi Odon was born on August 15 1980 in Portharcourt Rivers State. He grew up in Portharcourt in a family of 17 and is the last child with 14 elder siblings. Timaya hails from Bayelsa State although he was born and bred in River State. He completed his primary and part of his secondary school education before moving to Lagos. He then returned to Portharcourt to study banking and finance but had poor grades and dropped out after the first semester.
Timaya moved back to Lagos to join Eedris Abdulkareem’s hiphop group as a backup vocalist. After 3 years working for Eedris, Timaya had to leave the group to focus on his solo career. He began to record collaborations with fellow up-and-coming artists and made his first cameo appearance in an unreleased music video by UDX, a Lagos-based rap group. Timaya subsequently met producer Obaksolo in Mafoluku, Oshodi, who produced his first major hit record “Dem Mama” after hearing him perform the acappella version. He worked with Namse Udosen (Menthol X) on the track “Pomporo” on his first album, True Story.
