Temi Fosudo
Written by Robin Okwanma

A shy and unassuming personality. But nevertheless, he is skilled in theater and stage performances, as well as writing scripts for movies. Fast-rising actor, playwright, movie script writer and producer, Temi Fosudo, is already well known in the public circles of Nigeria’s movie industry. And yet he does not joke with his privacy; it is a critical part of his identity.

We are not forgetting the fact that he is the original ‘chip off the block’. Temi Fosudo’s father, Professor Sola Fosudo, actually needs no introduction. Sola Fosudo is a well-known and exceptionally-skilled veteran Nigerian actor and director. He was very active in Nollywood during the 1990s and early 2000s. He is also currently a professor of Theater Arts at the Lagos State University, Ojo. Without any doubt, bringing father and son to stand side-by-side will definitely strike you like a thunderbolt. Except for the obvious marks of advancing age on the father – they are practically twins.

Let’s Meet Temi Fosudo

Temiloluwa Fosudo operates from Ibadan, southwest Nigeria; but hails from Lagos state. The young thespian is careful not to reveal his personal details to anyone. But a respected online source reveals that Temi Fosudo was born in March 1991. We can also glean from his father’s online presence that Temiloluwa has three siblings (Tolulase, Tomiwa, and Tumininu). There are no glimpses into his love life for now; but he is still single.

Temiloluwa is also a Masters degree holder in Theater Arts from the University of Ibadan. He has proudly chosen to follow in the footsteps of his father, whom the Nigerian film and movie industry cannot easily forget.

The Beginnings of Temi Fosudo’s Playwriting Career

Just before he got university admission, Temi Fosudo wrote his very first play titled ‘Beyond the Oracle’. As he narrated later on, it was more or less an experiment. He had done little research before embarking on it. The plot of the play was set in an ancient Yoruba village; and the story attempted to bring Yoruba gods to life. However, Temi Fosudo admitted he knew very little about ancient Yoruba cosmology, or the true nature of each of these gods. He randomly assigned attributes to each god (whether accurate or not).

He went ahead to present the play to his father for a review. Curiously enough, his father printed out the play and wrote Temi’s name on it – a laudable act from a supporting father. His father made him feel it was a great achievement. That response solidified his confidence in telling his own authentic stories through play writing from then henceforth.

By the time Temi Fosudo got admission into the University of Ibadan, he invited three of his friends to read the play. One of them, Nike Bennett, was a 300 Level student of playwriting. The play was eventually performed in 2021 – directed by Nike Bennett. This marked the beginning of his playwright career.

The following year, he wrote his second play ‘Another Episode of Trauma’. Temi Fosudo went ahead to win his first award as a writer, in the Theater Arts department of the University of Ibadan. He also wrote the play ‘The Lady in The Chamber’.

In 2020, Temi Fosudo presented his play, Milk, Honey and Whatnotas an entry into the 3rd Beeta Playwright Competition. The play finished in the position of Second Runner-Up for that year. But in 2021, his play ‘Black Dust’ won the grand prize of 1 million Naira.at the 4th Beeta Playwright Competition. The annual competition is sponsored by the Beeta Universal Arts Foundation (BUAF); and it was held in the MUSON Center in Onikan, Lagos. From then on, Temi Fosudo has continued a steady rise into a blossoming career in the Nigerian movie industry.

Temi Fosudo has a greater preference for handling roles behind the scenes. So far, he excels as a playwright, movie script writer, and stage producer. He aspires to be a director.
