Riyad Mahrez Biography and Early Life

The left-footed Riyad Karim Mahrez, nicknamed Algerian Robben, was born on February 21, 1991 in Sarcelles, France. Riyad’s parents, Ahmed Mahrez and Halima Mahrez, are Algerian and Moroccan, respectively.

Riyad Mahrez is the second child of his parents. His younger sisters are Inness Mahrez and Dounya Mahrez. His family lived in the busy suburbs near Paris.

Drug trafficking and violence predominated Sarcelles, where the Riyad family was based. Riyad’s dad was a footballer in the Algerian national team, and this motivated Riyad to pursue his football passion.

Riyad Mahrez’s family later relocated to France. Riyad’s dad coached and trained Riyad after seeing the football drive in his son. Riyad’s dad also followed his son to give him the motivation, support, and drive to keep on.

Riyad then began to play for AAS Sarcelles in 2004. Two years later, Riyad’s dad died (Riyad was only 15 then). The loss of his father pushed him to train to give his best to his football career. Well, how long did the drive last? Let’s find out.

Riyad Mahrez’s Career and Net Worth

Riyad Mahrez started his career after joining AAS Sarcelles in 2009 as a youth player. Later on, he progressed to joining the 7th-ranked club in France, Quimper.

Riyad’s skinny stature scared his coaches, as they doubted his ability to be a professional footballer. However, his exceptional skills were awesome and he kept training to be better.

Owing to his excellent football skills, he got offers from notable clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille. Riyad, however, rejected them due to how intentional he was about being better in his game. Riyadh instead signed a deal with Le Havre, in the French second division. He then appeared in 60 games and scored about 6 goals before he left the team.

Riyad sought better opportunities as his former team wasn’t enough to groom his abilities. Riyad then took the decision to join Leicester City, as recommended by his brother, Walid. Riyad’s parents weren’t in support of him moving to England, but he still insisted and settled with the club after seeing their training facilities.

His debut appearance for Leicester City was in the match against Middlesbrough as a substitute in the 79th minute. The score was 2-0 at the end of the game. After some time playing as a substitute for Leicester City, he then progressed to being a starter. It was in his time with the club that Leicester City won the league title and qualified for the Premier League after a decade-long absence.
