The Egyptian team El Mokawloon couldn’t feature in the 2012 Egyptian League as it was canceled due to the Port Said Stadium riot.
News spread about the suspension and this made the Basel Swiss team offer Salah an opportunity to join the club as they monitored his impressive football skills at his former club.
Mohamed later accepted the offer and signed a four-year deal with the Swiss team in 2012. He played in the Swiss Super League and impressively scored on his debut appearance in the league. During his time with the Basel club, he led the team to a semi-finals appearance against Tottenham.

Although the team lost to the English team, Chelsea, the Chelsea’s management personnel observed Mohamed’s football striking skills in the Champions League, where Chelsea was grouped with Basel.
