Phyno’s Biography and Early Life

The Ezege Lord, Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike known by his stage name, Phyno was born on 9th October 1986 in Enugu state. He’s the fourth child of his parents and a native of Anambra State.

Phyno initially wanted to be a Pilot and later on a doctor. It was during his secondary school days, that he showed his interest in music production. Like a typical African family, they never supported the decision.

He learned and played the piano, drums, and some other musical instruments. During his second year in university, Phyno began to reap the rewards of his zealousness.

Phyno graduated from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu with a degree in Public Administration.

Phyno’s Career life and Earnings

‘Phyno’ was coined from the word ‘Phenomenal’.  The nickname was given to him by his high school friends due to his distinguishable character.

He remixed every song he listened to, to his version. As stated above, he already got into music production in his secondary school.

In 2003, Phyno started his music production path. He released his debut album, “No Gut No Glory” in 2014 and then began to take the spotlight. There were guest appearances in the album like Stormrex, Olamide, Mi Abaga, Omawumi, Ice Price, Runtown, Flavour Timaya, Psqaure, Illbliss, and Mr. Raw.

The 20-track album had a lead single, “Ghost Mode”  which featured a guest appearance of the Nigerian rapper, Olamide. The song won the Best Collabo at The Headies in 2012.  It also won The Best Collabo at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Phyno released his second single, Man Of The Year(Obago) and the video, was uploaded on YouTube on 20 August 2013.  The 2012 Headies awards “Best Rap single” was awarded to his single, “Man of the Year”.

Just like Falz’s This is Nigeria video was banned, Phyno’s Man of the Year video got banned by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation in September 2013.

The 2013 Hennessey Artistry club Tour featured Phyno alongside Nigerian singers like D’banj, Burna Boy, Kay Switch, Vector, Picado, Seyi Shey, SDC, and Chidinma as a supporting acts.

Phyno performed at the Star Music Trek Tours 2013, in Owerri for 25 minutes. The 2014 Star Music Trek Tours in Nsukka also had a Phyno touch.

His first Phynofest show was at Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium in Onitsha, Anambra state. The show pulled a crowd of about 12,000 people. The next year’s edition was at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu state. This again pulled an additional 18,000 to the first performance’s attendance.

Each of his shows always had guest appearances from other known Nigerian artists. The 2017’s edition of the Phynofest show pulled a great attendance of 50,000 persons and was unarguably the largest concert in Africa.

Phyno released two other studio albums, “Alobam (An Igbo slang for my guy)” in 2014 and “Deal with it” in 2019, and “Something to Live For”.  He also did a collabo album with Olamide titled “2 Kings”. Each of these albums received positive reviews and was a success.

Phyno, Olamide and Eva Alordiah signed a Guinness Nigeria Ambassadorial deal in August 2014. This lasted till 2015. Phyno also signed an endorsement deal with Nigeria’s telecommunication network ‘Airtel Nigeria’ in 2015 which is worth 50 million Naira.

Nairabet also had a deal with Phyno that earned him millions of Naira’s still In 2015. No doubt, 2015 was an amazing year for him. Phyno was endorsed as the Nigerian Breweries’ brand ambassador for Life Lager Beer. He, later on, was signed as the brand ambassador for Monster Energy.

Phyno alongside Teni, signed an endorsement deal with the TomTom company and Cadbury Nigeria Plc in 2019. He’s got a lot of cars and houses through his wealth. He’s no doubt one of the most successful Nigerian Male artists and has a net worth of $10 million

Phyno was nominated 13 times for the Headies Award and won thrice. He was nominated for four times at the City People Entertainment Awards and won twice. He won an award from the Nigeria Entertainment Awards after being nominated thrice.
